Dundee’s new railway station has officially opened alongside the new Sleeperz hotel which sits above the new £38m refurbished station.
The new station has been officially opened by Dundee West MSP Joe Fitzpatrick alongside the Dundee Lord Provost Ian Borthwick and many individuals from the public.
City development convener Lynne Short said the revamped station would offer a “wonderful” first impression to visitors.
Caroline Warburton, VisitScotland regional leadership director also said:
“The refurbishment of Dundee’s train station marks another important milestone in the city’s tourism transformation.
The new railway station will be open to passengers from today and is expected to attract thousands of people coming through Dundee.
Playing the piano!
The new railway station also features a piano near to the entrance which was donated by 84-year old Dave Patterson in memory of his wife Jean who sadly lost a battle to Alzheimers in February.
Jean had retired at the railway station after 25 years and also had a passion for music. Now the public can have the opportunity to play on the piano.
The piano also has a plaque installed on to the front which pays tribute to Jean.
